Undergraduate Programs

The Centers also support the operation and staffing of Professor Jene A. Golovchenko’s Freshman Seminar where students working in teams learn to solve research problems. Golovchenko interviews 60 to 70 freshmen for the 12 openings in each semester. Students decide what experiments they will do with guidance from Golovchenko but are strongly urged to work independently. This approach has been very successful—students can be found in the laboratory on Saturday mornings, and even during finals.
